Divorce & Remarriage: What The Church failed to teach you. Part 2

Biblical Interpretation of Divorce

  1. 🔍

God's hatred of divorce stems from the lies and broken covenants it represents, not the act itself.

  2. 📜

Jesus' teachings on divorce in Matthew 5:31-32 are often misunderstood due to translation errors, with Greek words "apostas" (divorce) and "apuo" (separation) being confused.

New Testament Perspective

  1. 🚫

In the New Testament, divorce without a divorce decree is considered adultery for the divorced woman to remarry.

  2. 🔄

1Corinthians 7:10-11 commands married couples to stay together or remain unmarried if separated, emphasizing reconciliation over remarriage.

Old vs. New Testament Differences

  1. 📄

The Old Testament required a written bill of divorcement for legal divorce, while the New Testament focuses on the divorce decree.

  2. 🔍

Jesus raised the standard of God's law, going beyond the letter of the law to the spirit behind it, dismantling harmful additions to Torah.

Remarriage and Sin

  1. ⚖️

Paul states in 1 Corinthians 7:27-28 that remarriage after divorce is not a sin, but can cause trouble and pain.

  2. 🔎

Jesus allows putting away a wife "except for fornication" (1 Cor 7:5), which includes unlawful sexual unions outside of Torah marriage.
